FMI's Management Consulting Group is seeking a high-energy, self-motivated individual with solid consulting skills to join its growing team. The selected candidate will experience a tremendous learning opportunity to acquire new skills from established and published compensation thought leaders. A team-consulting model drives the process, and client interaction occurs at the top levels. This role will make a difference by transforming an industry to the latest best practices and data strategies.


This full-time opportunity requires 40-60% travel, and will be based in our corporate headquarters in Raleigh, North Carolina.


  • Consulting and interacting with people at all levels across a client organization, including senior-level executives
  • Overseeing multiple engagements with multiple clients simultaneously
  • Assessing client needs, writing proposals, determining project plans, managing client expectations and developing client solutions
  • Conducting interviews
  • Analysis of client pay data and trends
  • Writing and delivering presentations, facilitating groups and providing training on various topics
  • Designing creative solutions for new incentive plans
  • Implementing new compensation plans and tools
  • Ensuring superior customer service through follow-up, client responsiveness and customer-focused communication
  • Providing expert input and contributing to the development of new programs, solutions and consulting models
  • Preparing articles for publication in industry publications
  • Performing other duties as assigned


  • Master’s degree in human resource management, industrial/organizational psychology or business OR an MBA required; Bachelor’s degree in human resource management, industrial/organizational psychology, business, economics, statistics, mathematics, engineering or building construction a plus
  • 5-7 years of professional work experience and strong consultative skills
  • Previous experience with Mercer, Towers Watson, Sibson, The Alexander Group or The Big 4 is a plus
  • Experience as a corporate compensation analyst or manager also considered
  • Certified Compensation Professional, Certified Sales Compensation Professional or Certified Executive Compensation Professional designations preferred
  • Sound understanding of basic statistics and principles; satisfactory completion of one or more statistics classes
  • Proficient Excel spreadsheet skills
  • Database knowledge a plus
  • Strong public speaking and presentation skills, including the ability to gain and retain the attention and involvement of sophisticated and challenging audiences
  • Proven leadership skills and the ability to exercise sound independent judgment
  • Demonstrated project management skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, listening, analytical, problem solving, interpersonal and relationship-building skills
  • Maturity, integrity and the ability to work in an entrepreneurial environment, both individually and as a team player
