Overview

FMI Corporation is seeking a high-energy, self-motivated individual to join our corporate finance team. The payroll and benefits coordinator will process benefits and payroll in addition to other accounting duties, including coordinating work with an outside payroll provider for semi-monthly payroll, quarterly and annual tax reporting reviews, W-2s and ACA reporting. The position reports to the controller.

 

This full-time opportunity will be based in our corporate headquarters in Raleigh, North Carolina.

Responsibilities

  • Receiving/processing paperwork for all current employee benefits programs
  • Reviewing paperwork and forms for accuracy prior to processing
  • Enrolling and terminating employees from benefits plans
  • Preparing deduction/contribution reports and ensuring timely processing of information
  • Reconciling monthly benefits billings, managing monthly billing reports and notifying carriers of changes to information
  • Auditing monthly benefits billings for billing rates, levels of coverage, plan type and other changes
  • Handling and investigating benefits questions and concerns
  • Serving as liaison between benefits plan representatives and employees
  • Managing all aspects of COBRA coverage including processing paperwork and payments, etc.
  • Communicating benefits plan offerings and changes to employees via various communication methods, including conducting benefits orientation presentations
  • Assisting with open enrollment and benefits renewals
  • Assisting with 401K employer contributions and notices to employees
  • Assisting with ACA compliance activities, including generating company 1095-C forms
  • Processing all new hire payroll activities
  • Reviewing all employee timesheets for accuracy, changes, completion and compliance; following up with appropriate manager/supervisor
  • Generating the semi-monthly payroll including all related activities, including but not limited to printing transaction reports, identifying and correcting errors and submitting the direct deposit file
  • Interpreting, investigating and answering employee payroll questions and concerns about payroll policies and procedures
  • Assisting with year-end payroll as well as new year payroll set up duties
  • Performing various audits of payroll, benefits, and expense reporting and other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business, human resources or related field
  • 2+ years of experience in payroll and/or benefits
  • Basic understanding of GAAP
  • Strong proficiency in MS Office software (Word, PowerPoint, Excel), and ERP applications
  • Superior organizational and time management skills, and the ability to efficiently manage multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines
  • High attention to detail and accuracy
  • Strong customer service skills and the ability to work effectively with both internal and external customers
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, listening, problem solving, interpersonal and relationship-building skills
  • Demonstrated maturity, integrity and the ability to perform in an entrepreneurial environment, both individually and as a team player
